Johnson will kick off his week at the G7 summit in the Bavarian Alps, where he will meet other world leaders to talk about Ukraine, global development and the environment, among other things. The French claimed Johnson was “very excited” about Macron’s new idea of a two-speed Europe that the UK could have as an associate member. The group would include states from the EU and non-EU countries and “find a new area of political cooperation,” the French president said in a conference speech last month. But sources in Downing Street responded, saying Johnson was “just being polite” when the French president told him about his plan, adding that Britain would never join.
