Gardaí seized cannabis worth an estimated 6.9 million euros and arrested two men in Co Kilkenny.
The two men, aged between 30 and 40, were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and are being held tonight under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1996, at Kilkenny Garda station.
Gardaí, affiliated with the Garda National Drugs and Organized Crime Bureau, assisted by Revenue Commissioners Customs Service and officers from the Eastern Region, searched a business premises in Ballyhale, Co Kilkenny on Monday, and found cannabis with an estimated street value of more than € 6.9 m.
A Garda spokesman said: “The arrests followed an intelligence-led Garda operation targeting transnational drug trafficking networks, which was conducted in the course of Operation TARA, whose focus is on disrupting, dismantling and prosecuting drug trafficking networks.”
