Gareth Southgate say Marcus Rashford's form for Manchester United This season is the reason why he has been left out of the England squad Euro 2024.
Rashford has scored just eight goals in 42 games for United this season, while he was also punished by Erik ten Hag in January after missing a workout after visiting a nightclub the night before.
The 26-year-old was a key figure under Southgate and was part of England's previous two World Cup squads in 2018 and 2022, as well as the 2021 European Championship.
But Southgate has opted not to include the United forward for this summer's tournament.
“These are obviously difficult decisions, you are talking about players who are very good players and who have been important to what we have done over the last few years,” Southgate said after England's provisional squad was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
“With Marcus I just feel like other players in that part of the field have had better seasons, it's as simple as that.”
England's provisional squad for Euro 2024

Defenders: Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton), Lewis Dunk (Brighton), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Jarell Quansah (Liverpool), Luke Shaw (Manchester United) John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Kyle Walker (Manchester City).
Midfielders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Curtis Jones (Liverpool), Kobbie Mainoo (Man Utd), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace).
Forward: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Phil Foden (Man City), Jack Grealish (Man City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), James Maddison (Tottenham), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ivan Toney (Brentford), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).
Southgate also admitted he was wary of having too many attacking players in his England squad.
“I would also have to say that I think you can also come forward too much,” Southgate said.
'In certain places on the field you can have too many options. With forwards you obviously have to endear them and make them feel special.
'If you have too many, it can also be complicated. There is a lot to think about in the coming weeks.”
Southgate also admitted that Luke Shaw is in a race to get fit for the 2024 Euros after not playing for United since February due to injury.
“He's against it,” Southgate said.
'He missed a lot of football. Since he is our first choice left back, we are giving him more time. I have spoken to him and the medical staff and I have worked very closely with Manchester United. I have to say he's a gamble.'
