Gary Neville has given a name to Manchester United 'imbalance' that Fulham can take advantage of Friday, in the first match of the 2024-25 season Eredivisie season.
The Red Devils will be hoping to improve on last season's disappointing eighth-place finish as Erik ten Hag prepares for his third season as manager at Old Trafford.
First up is Marco Silva's Fulham. This summer, the West Londoners have strengthened their squad with the signing of, among others, Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal.
Former United defender Neville believes Fulham can focus on two areas. The first is the home side's left-back position, given the injury to Luke Shaw.
The second area where Fulham can benefit is United's weak attack. Last season, the Cottagers scored more goals than Ten Hag's men in the Premier League.
“There is still an imbalance in some parts of the team that needs to improve,” Neville said Sky Sport ahead of United's opening match in the top division of the 2024–25 season.
'There are concerns about Luke Shaw, who is injured at left back now. Who will play there?
'Potentially up front too, if Rasmus Hojlund remains injured. United are lacking there.'
Ten Hag, meanwhile, spoke about United's expectations for the new season, saying: 'I am very happy with the new structure.
“We work very well together. The team has always been good, but I think we can make steps forward.
'I think we can take positives from the preparation and also from today's game, but I think if we step it up a notch and be more clinical in both boxes we can be a successful team.'
United lost to Manchester City on penalties in the 2024 Community Shield on Saturday.
There were particularly worrying performance of Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount in the match at Wembley.
