Gary Neville has advised Harry Maguire to see a psychologist to help him regain his best form as it was something that helped him throughout his own career.

Maguire is going through a rough time in his career after being dropped Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and face criticism if England boss Gareth Southgate stays with him in the national team.

The 29-year-old is now dealing with a thigh injury sustained on Monday night during the 3-3 draw with Germany and will be out of action for the Red Devils for two weeks.

Maguire’s confidence seems to be at a serious low and Marcel says seeking psychological help would be a positive step for the centre-back.

The former Manchester United and England defender says any player will sympathize with a loss of confidence and a psychologist helped him when he experienced it during his playing days.

‘I’ve been there,’ said Marcel. “Every player has that. When I lost my confidence, I saw a psychologist to help me through those moments.

“But there’s nothing you can do but show up, do your best, and don’t give in.

“At some point, his form returns. I would suggest that he do what I did. I went to my doctor at Manchester United. I did go to a psychologist. Sometimes you need outside help.’

Maguire started both England games during the international break, but will be unfit to play at least the next three games for Manchester United.

England’s next game is their first World Cup group stage match against Iran on November 21 and Southgate will be desperate to get his centre-back in shape and confidence by then, whether he heeds Neville’s advice or not.
