The new design, which has been in public preview for the past few months, gives access to Chat, Spaces, and Meet at the top left of the main Gmail window. Users can freely switch between all these apps without having to launch them individually. You can also customize that section and omit any apps you don’t want to use in the Quick Settings section. Google points out that if you like the old design, you still have the option of sticking to the default Gmail format.
In addition to the new design, Google is also working on more Gmail features. They include improvements to the search results that are now available. In the near future, we should also see a revamped Gmail look for tablets, along with improvements in accessibility features and new emoji designs.
