Google recently launched the Pixel 9 series globally. The Pixel 9 series consists of four devices, one of which is a foldable and three regular devices, one of which is the vanilla Pixel 9 and the others are the Pro variants. The Pro variants, which includes the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, feature LTPO display panels. This helps in supporting variable refresh rate on the go, which makes for more efficient battery usage. While the LTPO panel will be present on the Pro variants shipping within India, there will be no Wi-Fi 7 support.

The global variants of the Pixel 9 Pro support the Wi-Fi 7 connectivity standard. Wi-Fi 7 is already supported by several devices in the Indian market. But you don’t have to worry about that at all. This is probably because the regulatory bodies in India don’t allow Wi-Fi 7 connectivity to be promoted. The device probably has the hardware required to support Wi-Fi 7. But it has been disabled by Google or not promoted due to the regulations in India.

The Indian government has not released the 6GHz spectrum, which will be crucial for the promotion of Wi-Fi 7. Telecom companies want to use it for mobile networks, while technology companies are promoting the use of 6GHz spectrum for Wi-Fi services. Even if your device supports Wi-Fi 7, it would be of no use to you if you live in India.
Google’s Pixel 9 series will soon be available in the market. Starting August 22, the devices will be available for purchase from Flipkart, Croma and Reliance Digital. This is the first time that Google has partnered with retailers other than Flipkart to sell the devices in India. This is likely to boost the company’s sales with a wider reach.
