A three-year-old boy has died after being hit by a tractor on a farm in Bury.

The youngster’s family flagged down an ambulance in the Tottington area of ​​the city on Saturday afternoon.

But despite being treated by paramedics, he was pronounced dead before they could go to hospital.

Chief Inspector Ian Partington said: ‘This is a heartbreaking incident where a young boy has tragically lost his life and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones who will be utterly devastated by today’s events.

“Despite his family igniting an ambulance as they rushed him to hospital, unfortunately the boy could not be rescued after the best efforts of paramedics; I can’t imagine how painful this was for those involved.

“We are working to ensure a full investigation is conducted, and farmland where we understand this incident occurred remains cordoned off to enable our investigators and partners from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to conduct thorough investigations.” to determine exactly what happened here.’

A GMP statement said: ‘Detectives in Bury are investigating the death of a three-year-old boy after a tractor collision on a farm in the Tottington area of ​​the city earlier this afternoon.

‘We were called by the NWAS (North West Ambulance Service) shortly before 12.45pm after an ambulance was signaled to stop by a vehicle carrying a seriously injured child on Rochdale Old Road.

Officers attended and the boy was tragically pronounced dead by paramedics before he could be taken to hospital.

On inquiry it was soon revealed that the boy had suffered serious injuries after a collision with a tractor on farmland off Bentley Hall Road.

“The tractor operator assists us with our investigation and a scene remains in place on the farm as researchers from Bury CID work with colleagues from the Health and Safety Executive to determine the conditions.”
