Gregg Wallace wants to see if he can achieve the physique of a 20-year-old by the time he turns 60 with his new diet and exercise routine.

The MasterChef judge, 57, who has lost four pounds by abandoning fad diets and instead enjoying healthy, home-cooked meals, drinking less and exercising regularly, believes he will be in optimal health in a few years’ time .

On why he embarked on his recent health journey, he said: “My motivation in the beginning was, ‘I just want to look better on television.’

“But now it’s, ‘How fit can I actually get? Can I really have the body of a 20-year-old at 60?” I’ve done everything. I’ve been fasting, no carbs, low fat. You name it, I’ve tried.

And yes, you can lose weight in the short term. But it’s really uncomfortable and you can’t last because you’re terribly hungry and miserable all the time.’

He added to the Sun“I’ve learned that it’s much better to slowly wean off the crap diet and cook good, healthy meals because you’re much more likely to succeed and enjoy the change.

“I’m not talking about lettuce leaves here, I’m talking about food you want to eat.”

He said, “Some people say, ‘I’m overweight and I’m happy.’ Well, I was overweight and I wasn’t happy.

“And I say to those people, ‘If you could take a pill right now and be three stones lighter, would you take it?’ And of course they would.

“The problem is people think losing weight will be difficult because they’ve tried it before and they’ve tried a very restrictive diet that’s uncomfortable.”

Gregg, who posted a topless selfie showing his weight loss two years ago that went viral, also admitted he feels physically more attractive after the body transformation.

He admitted that he feels “more attractive” and that he is “more fun to be around” after the transformation, adding: “Let’s face it, my wife Anna [who is also the mother of his three-year-old son, Sid) is 22 years younger than me and while I can’t change my age, at least I can change what I look like.’

Two years after he posted the topless picture, Gregg – whose frequent hardcore exercise sessions with a personal trainer include chin-ups, bench presses, kettlebells and press-ups – says he loves showing off his body and has no plans to stop.

He revealed that some people told him not to share the topless pic, but he did anyway in a bid to ‘celebrate success’, which he thinks is important after you’ve ‘improved your health so dramatically’.

‘It got huge hits online and people got really inspired by it.’

The TV star is going to continue sharing progress snaps ‘every birthday’ to chart his success, because he feels ‘really proud’ of how he looks at his age.

‘I’m approaching 60 and I know for sure I’ve been scared of my age before and scared for my health. But now I’m embracing ageing.’
