Half of all smartphones sold during China’s 6.18 festival were iPhones

China’s annual shopping spree, the 6.18 festival, has sold 14 million smartphones – and it is estimated that Apple’s iPhone models accounted for half.

Apple previously did well in China’s 6.18 iPhone festival, but for 2022, new research says it made 7 million of the 14 million smartphones sold.

“Apple strengthened its leadership with impressive performance at the 6.18 festival this year,” said Peng Peng, an analyst at research firm Strategy Analytics. “Apple outperformed the market by selling nearly 7 million iPhone units, down a modest -4% year-over-year.”

Strategy Analytics says that “thanks to the larger mix of more expensive iPhones,” Apple’s 49% share of sales by volume meant 66% share of all revenue.

Xiaomi has conquered 30% of the market by volume, which is slightly lower from 32% at this time in 2021. Honor came third with 10% volume share, higher than 2021’s 6%.

“We estimate Apple generated revenue of 41.5 billion CNY (US $ 6.3 billion),” Peng continued, saying that Apple dominated all of China’s online stores that participated in the shopping spree. “Apple is best ranked by revenue share across all major platforms (JD, TMall and Pinduoduo, etc.).”

China’s JD.com has long been a popular website for iPhone buyers in the country. In the first two seconds of its Singles Day sale in 2021, JD.com sold $ 15.6 million of the iPhone 13.

In addition to special occasions such as the 6.18 festival, Apple’s iPhone sales in China recovered in May 2022 after a decline in April. Morgan Stanley research claims that iPhone sales in China increased by 15%.

The growth in China has also fueled Apple’s world figures. Research by Counterpoint says that the iPhone tool accounts for 62% of global smartphone sales in Q1 2022.
