HOME The heads of the agency have deported only 21 asylum seekers despite their claims being inadmissible because they have relatives in Europe.
Under a new regulation, ministers can reject claims from persons associated with a safe third country.
The move mainly took place between January 2021 and September last year.
That means they are automatically rejected for asylum in Britain.
As it turned out processing rates have reached record highs out of 160,000 this week, the Sun may reveal on Sunday that only a fraction of those determined to be immediately ineligible have been deported.
Of the 20,605 that could be started under the rules, the latest numbers show only 21 have been spawned so far.
Most came from Albaniawith 2,347 claims rejected, followed by Eritreans (2,321) and refugees Iran (2.167).
About 18,494 have been told they will be booted, but only 21 – or one in a thousand – have been successfully removed.
Those who were booted were sent Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden And Switzerland.
Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg said, “If there are such simple cases, one would hope that this would be done with immediate priority.”
This must be done as soon as possible to get the numbers under control.
“It’s just puzzling that the Home Office hasn’t done more to address this.”
of labour Yvette Cooper said: “This shows that the law the Tories passed made things worse, not better, and that it was just a complete scam.
“All it has done is increase delays and add hundreds of millions of pounds to hotel costs.
“Work has a common sense plan to crack down on the criminal gangs to prevent dangerous boat crossings and to speed up the asylum system to prevent inappropriate hotel use.
