Cathedral Studios has revealed The Ritual, a new game mode for its upcoming horror first-person shooter game The born.

This announcement comes with the launch of a new teaser trailer for The borntoday at 1:00 p.m. CET (4:00 a.m. Pacific) via IGN and GameTrailers’ YouTube channels, ahead of the Gamescom 2024 gaming expo in Cologne, Germany, next week. (Mike Minotti and I will be there.)
Set on a remote Lovecraftian island in the 1960s, Ritual mode introduces the Bornless universe and immerses players in a thrilling survival experience.

Duos find themselves on Farmouth Island at night; the mist is thick and all sorts of things lurk behind it
phobia-inducing creatures. Their only way off the island and back to their respective safehouses is to complete the necessary rituals, call upon the Demons of Farmouth, and do their deadly bidding. Those who fail to do so must fight to survive or risk losing everything.
“With The Ritual, we’ve created a gameplay experience that challenges players’ strategy, skill and instincts,” said Toby Saunders, CEO of Cathedral Studios, in a statement. “The excitement from the community has been incredible, and we’re eager for players to immerse themselves in this new mode. We’re also excited to show off the game at Gamescom 2024, where fans can experience the terror for themselves.”
Set against the eerie backdrop of Farmouth Island, shrouded in mist, the recently released teaser trailer offers viewers a thrilling glimpse into the world of The Bornless.
As eerie sounds of the sea mingle with screams, gunshots and explosions, two characters aboard a boat witness the horrors that await them. This short but intense preview promises a mix of horror and action that will leave viewers eagerly awaiting more.
Fans attending Gamescom 2024 can find The Bornless in the Entertainment Area in Hall 10.1, Stand E-080. There, they can try out the new game mode, meet popular Twitch streamer Delacroix, take advantage of giveaways, meet the team, provide feedback, and much more.
For those unable to attend Gamescom in person, Cathedral Studios will be streaming The Bornless on Twitch and Steam, allowing everyone to experience the new mode. Cathedral Studios will also be present in the Business Area in Hall 4.1, Stand D-011, for those interested in learning more about the studio’s future plans.
The next playtest for The Bornless, featuring The Ritual mode, is scheduled for Fall 2024. Gamers interested in participating can sign up for the waitlist on the Steam page or directly at The Bornless website.
