SHARK Week comes along every year and chronicles the life of one of the ocean’s apex predators.
The 2022 edition of Shark Week is set to entertain viewers with new content.
How long has Shark Week been going on?
shark week has aired on the Discovery Channel for over three decades.
It originally premiered on July 17, 1988 and became an instant success for the network.
As of 2010, it is the longest-running cable television program in history, broadcasting in more than 72 countries.

In 2018, Shark Week had 34.9 million viewers and Discovery Channel took the number one prime time network spot at the annual event.
How did Shark Week come about?
The idea for Shark Week originated in a bar when executives John Hendricks, Clark Bunting and Steve Cheskin discussed new programming plans for the Discovery Channel, according to executive producer Brooke Runnette who told The Atlantic Ocean.
“And one of them said something like, ‘You know what would be great? Shark Week!’ And someone in that nexus scribbled it on a napkin.
“You know what that’s like. An idea in a bar comes from many fathers,” says Runnette.
The first show was created and titled Caged in Fear and featured 10 episodes of the creature of the ocean.
Other shows were added to the weekly special, including Sharks: Predators or Prey, The Shark Takes a Siesta and Sharks of a Different Color.
The show went without a host for over 10 years and then started with celebrities series to present.
Shark Week 2022: When will it premiere on Discovery+?
shark week is expected to start on Sunday 24 July 2022 Discovery+ and last until July 31.

Season 34 will see bigger sharks and bigger findings from teams of scientists and researchers around the world.
The annual tradition first premiered on July 17, 1988, and has since become the longest-running event for cable television programming in history.
