Huawei Pura 70 Ultra review

Introduction, specifications, unpacking

The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is the ultimate flagship from the struggling Chinese maker and sits at the top of its updated photography lineup. It comes with the mysterious next-generation Kirin 9010 chipset and some of the best technologies on the market.

The name of the P Series may have changed to Pura, but the goal remains the same: to provide the best photography-on-the-go experience. The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra's triple rear camera is a real showstopper, so it's only natural to start from here.

There's a 50 MP 1″ Sony IMX989 sensor with sensor-shift stabilization and a high-quality variable aperture lens, followed by a 40 MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus and a 50 MP telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom and up to 10x hybrid zoom The 13MP selfie camera is also promising with an ultra-wide-angle lens and autofocus.

The Huawei Pura 70 is of course a beautiful thing. It has a curved design with an eco-leather back, a futuristic camera housing design and cool colors. Furthermore, it is a solidly built smartphone with a Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass above the screen and an aluminum frame. It also has an IP68 rating.

The Pura 70 Ultra has a large 6.8-inch LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 1260p, 1B colors and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Among them is the new Kirin 9010 chipset, a small piece of hardware that will inevitably lead to a new part of research, especially now that the Pura 70 series has been launched in Europe and Asia.

Finally, the Pura 70 Ultra is powered by a 5,200mAh battery that offers 100W wired and 80W wireless charging, plus 20W reverse wireless charging.

The Pura 70 Ultra has two exclusive features over the rest of the Pura 70 phones: the 1-inch sensor for the main camera, a higher resolution telephoto and UW cameras, plus the promising Crystal Armor Kunlun glass for the screen.

There are two potentially big setbacks right away: the mid-range chipset (at a flagship price) and the lack of Google Mobile Services. The latter can be solved to some extent by third-party software solutions, but is still a turn-off for some users.

Unpacking the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra

Huawei has packaged the Pura 70 Ultra in one large and thick, luxurious-looking box. The bundle includes the phone itself, a premium case with matching color but a different P-style texture, a 100W charger and a USB-CC cable.

See how this charger has both USB-C and USB-A ports? While convenient, it's not a dual charger: you can only use one port at a time.
