Hughes Communications India (HCI), a major provider of broadband satellite and managed services, has been selected by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to deploy and operate a Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) on its 10,800-year-old site retail business network. It will be a five-year contract worth over Rs 100 crore or $12.5 million USD.
Some of the critical business processes and store automation are made possible with the HughesON Managed SD-WAN solution. Things like Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) software and network monitoring, daily price updates, payment processing and more will be done with enterprise-grade connectivity and quality of service. Hughes will provide IOCL 24×7 customer service in 28 states and seven union territories.
Shivaji Chatterjee, SVP and Enterprise Business Head, HCL, said: Hughes is honored to partner with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited to support their digital transformation journey. Hughes will do this by deploying India’s largest SD-WAN with its ‘made-in-India’ managed network solution, Chatterjee added.
“Our extensive experience supporting the Indian retail petroleum industry gives us the understanding, partnerships and technical expertise to support IOCL in achieving higher performance benchmarks across their network, leveraging the best available 4G/LTE connectivity on any out of 10,000+ locations. We look forward to supporting them in their continued success,” said Chatterjee.
HCL already works with oil and petroleum companies
HCL has a lot of experience when it comes to working with oil and petroleum companies. The company has been connecting more than 25000 retail petroleum outlets. Some of the big names like Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Reliance-BP and more are using Hughes’ technology to enable fast retail transactions.
HCL will provide IOCL access to its HughesON portal, enabling the latter to gain localized and system-wide data insights to aid in business decision-making. Hughes will deploy the IN500X terminal at any location with zero-touch provisioning, industry standard network protocols, centralized configuration management and two ports for the best available LTE connectivity from local telecom providers.
