US Secret Service says it and other federal agencies are aware of alleged hack at Hunter Biden’s iCloud account – but it’s not clear what they’re doing about it.
Posters on the anonymous social media site 4chan claim to have accessed Hunter Biden’s iCloud account and are posting photos and videos that are said to have been extracted. Repeatedly described as a hack or as 4chan cracking Biden’s password, credentials are more likely to have been obtained through phishing – if at all.
It is not clear from the latest 4chan posts whether the data is new or part of a previously claimed access to Biden’s account. In 2020, Hunter Biden’s laptop was alleged to have been stolen, although the BBC said it was enough doubt that the media refused to publish the story.
Now according to NBC News, the US Secret Service has confirmed it is “aware” of the new claims. The agency does not say they are under investigation.
“At this time, we are not in a position to make public comments about possible investigative actions,” said Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Secret Service. “I can assure you that the Secret Service, along with other federal law enforcement partners, is aware of the social media posts and allegations referring to Mr. Biden.”
It has not been confirmed whether the apparently new information is legitimately that of Hunter Biden. However, NBC News says it was finally able to investigate data from the previously stolen laptop and confirmed certain details as belonging to Biden or his company.
That data was eventually provided to: NBC News early 2022 by a spokesperson on behalf of Rudy Giuliani. In 2021, Giuliani had claimed to have multiple Hunter Biden hard drives.
AppleInsider has contacted Apple, the FBI, and the Secret Service for comment and has not received a response to date.
