CAROL Kirkwood has revealed how she “ruined” her fiancé’s proposal with the worst possible response.
The BBC breakfast star, 60, confirmed her engagement live on air in May, showing off her incredible diamond ring.
Carol has now opened up about when her fiancé Steve asked the question.
Carol appeared on the Monday edition of The one show next to fellow guest, Vicky Pattison.
Host Ronan Keating said, “You actually have something in common. You’re both engaged this year.”
As the women laughed and showed their rings, Ronan asked Carol how her fiancé had proposed to her.
She replied: “He surprised me! We went for a picnic by the river and we just sat there and you could tell he was messing around a bit.
“And I thought, ‘What’s the matter with you?’
“And the next thing, he’s on his knee and he had the ring and he asked it!”
But she left the others shocked when she added: “I thought he was joking. I ruined it.
“I said, ‘Oh, you’re smiling!’ And he said, ‘No, seriously, I’ve got the ring!’
“And then I said, ‘Well! Of course I will marry you.’ He was happy with it.”
Carol previously told Hello! Magazine that Steve proposed to one of their favorite places in Berkshire a few weeks before her 60th birthday.
He chose the “halo” style engagement ring himself and Carol added that they had met in their 50s and had been friends before they became a couple.
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
