THEY say the customer is always right – but the opposite turns out to be true for many people who step into Clarks.
A shoe store employee has revealed that many of their loyal customers struggle to get the name of the brand right and compare their designs to none other than Cornish pasties.
In a video posted on Clarks’ TikTok account – which can be found at @clarks – one of their female team members shared the “comments we get at Clarks” most days.
The shoe brand shared the video as part of the new trend on social media, which has seen other stores, such as Marks & Spencer’s, lift the lid on the popular phrases they had to get used to.
The clip opens with the woman dancing to a soundtrack as the words appear on the screen – with many customers not familiar with the store’s name.
According to the video, many walk through the doors pointing out that the sign on the outside has always confused them by saying, “I thought it was pronounced Clanks.”
The next sentence that pops up is “I was ridiculed for wearing your shoes.”
It then moves on to another question often asked by shoe store staff: “Do people really wear these shoes after primary school?”
But perhaps most bizarre of all, their shoes are often compared to a very popular British dish.
That’s because they often hear, “That looks like a Cornish patty.”
Many Clarks fans were entertained by the ironic video and said in the comments that they had made similar mistakes in the past.
Someone wrote: “When I was little I thought the logo said Clanks.”
While someone else reminisced about their own experience working there, she added: “When I worked there (early 00s) it was around the time of the ‘ooh new shoes!’ advertisement.
“I used to hear that at least once per shift,” they said alongside a howling laughing emoji.
