Ilkeston: Dog tears up mother and two children and ‘owner has been arrested’

A mother and her two children are attacked by a dog, and the alleged owner has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a third child.

An onlooker claimed they saw a woman and two boys ‘covered in blood and bite marks’ after the ‘domestic’ incident in Derbyshire.

The mother, in her twenties, is said to have been both assaulted and bitten.

Her two sons suffered bite injuries, while a third boy, also under the age of 16, was also injured.

All four victims are being treated for their injuries, none of which are believed to be life-threatening.

A bystander claimed they looked like Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

A man in his twenties was arrested on suspicion of assault, coercion and control.

He is also accused of being in charge of a dog that is dangerously out of control.

Speaking to Derbyshire Live, one resident said: ‘There were quite a few police cars and it looked really serious.

“I think they had someone in the back of a police van, but I couldn’t see much.”

Another added: ‘The police were standing next to the roundabout and they were there for a long time. I can’t imagine how those involved must have felt.’

A statement from Derbyshire Police said: ‘Officers were called to reports of a… […] incident in Nottingham Road, Ilkeston, about 6pm last night (August 12).

“At the scene, a woman in her 20s was found to have been attacked and bitten by a dog – as well as two boys under 16 who were also bitten in the incident.

A third boy, also under the age of 16, was found to have been assaulted during the incident.

A man in his twenties has been arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault, coercion and controlling behavior and leading a dog that is dangerously out of control. He remains in police custody.

‘Four dogs have been seized from the address and are now being taken care of by a specialized kennel.

“All four victims of the incident are being treated for their injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.”
