Keeping your houseplants alive can be difficult at the best of times.
But during a heat wave, your green friends may need a little more attention to keep them from wilting.
Fortunately, gardener Felix Wilson, from Unclutterer.comshared some helpful hacks to make sure your plants thrive, even in scorching heat.
He shared: “The common assumption is that when the UK is experiencing a heat wave, it’s best to move houseplants to a cool spot near a fan.
“This is actually one of the worst things you can do.”
According to the pro, directing an electric fan at your houseplants will dry them out completely, making them much more prone to shrivel and die.
Be sure to water only your plant’s soil, rather than pouring water directly onto the plant and running down the leaves.
Just because it’s warm doesn’t automatically mean your plants need more water.
Check that the soil is completely dry before additional watering.
Watering plants early in the morning before the sun has fully risen will prevent the leaves from burning as well.
And always make sure your plants are completely drained before returning them to their decorative pots, leaving them in the water can lead to root rot.
If your plants are in particularly warm rooms, move them to a cooler area as well.
Of course, not every plant is the same, so make sure you know your plant’s specific likes and dislikes before making any major changes.
