I’m a pilot – here’s how to land a plane in an emergency

A LOOILOOT has revealed how you will be able to land a plane in an emergency – and normal passengers may experience problems.

Pilot Patrick Smith said there was no chance a normal passenger would land a commercial aircraft.

However, there was hope if you were traveling on smaller plans, I explained.

He told CNN Travel: “The odds are still very much against you, but the results will differ from person to person and plane to plane.

“Where exactly is the aircraft from the runway in terms of altitude, distance and speed?

“And how accurate is this person’s seat-of-the-pants interpretations of what the plane does? A lot of it will also come down to happiness.”

He also said that passengers who are aviation enthusiasts or use flight simulation programs could “perhaps save the day”, but would be difficult due to the differences in cockpits.

FAA flight instructor and former pilot Douglass Moss also revealed how inexperienced passengers can give themselves a good chance.

This includes having a flight instructor on call, as well as a “natural talent” to use intricate mechanics.

However, it is difficult to land a plane in an emergency, even for pilots, so passengers will have a much lower chance of survival.

One of the most famous plane landings is the Miracle on the Hudson, when each passenger survived after the plane lost both engines in a bird’s-eye view.

This was due to the pilot’s incredible flying skills which meant that he landed on the Hudson River after the emergency.
