aheem sterling has joined his new Chelsea teammates after flying to the US for a pre-season tour.
The 27-year-old completed his move to the Blues from Manchester City as it was officially announced on Wednesday. Sterling joined Thomas Tuchelhis side in a £47.5 million deal, which will see him earn £310,000 a week.
The England international has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with the option to extend it for another season, as he joins another major Premier League club after successful spells at City and Liverpool.
Speaking for the first time as a Chelsea player, Sterling revealed his excitement at returning to London and how important that opportunity was in his decision to join the club.
“First of all, it’s a pleasure to be here,” Sterling told Chelsea’s official website.
“I have clearly achieved a lot in my career thus far, but there is still so much more to achieve and I am really looking forward to doing that in a Chelsea shirt, led by Thomas.
“London is my home and where it all started for me, and it’s great that I now have the opportunity to play for friends and family week after week at Stamford Bridge. I’m really looking forward to meeting the fans there soon.”
Sterling has flown to the US and has started training with the Chelsea squad as they begin their preparations for the season. The Blues will face Club America this weekend, for a game against Charlotte and then a high profile game with Arsenal in the Florida Cup on July 23.
Chelsea hope to have made further additions to their roster by then, with Kalidou Koulibaly about to complete a transfer to the club on a four-year deal. He will undergo a medical examination on Thursdaybefore flying out to join the squad as well.
Nathan Ake remains a target for Chelsea, while there have also been talks with PSG about a move for Presnel Kimpembe.
