Elections Osun: INEC moves polling stations of politicians? houses and palaces

Polling stations for palaces, politicians, religious centers and other controversial areas have been relocated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun, Professor Abdulganiy Raji, speaking ahead of the state’s gubernatorial elections held this weekend, said polling stations have been moved from controversial areas to open spaces and public buildings.

At a stakeholder meeting organized by the election referee in Osogbo, the state capital on Tuesday, July 12, Raji said;

“The polling stations were moved from controversial areas, such as the fronts of politicians’ houses, the fronts of palaces, religious centers, to open spaces or public buildings.

“This action must ensure adequate security and peaceful elections. Hot spots have been identified and strategies have been mapped out to solve problems that could disrupt the electoral process.”

Raji also alluded to the conversion of polling stations at polling stations in an effort to expand voters’ access to polling stations.

The INEC REC, which further confirmed that all non-sensitive materials to be used in Saturday’s election have been bundled up to the polling station level and ready to be transferred to the various Registration Centers (RACs), added that the commission produces maps of all polling stations in the state, both electronic and paper, for easy relocation and location of polling stations by election officials.

Raji concluded by saying that polls are drill-ready and ready for deployment.
