The device weighs 200 grams and fits in your pocket. The company claims the internal battery will last over 2 hours of recording time at 5K or over 2 hours at 8K, and charges to 100% in less than 1 hour via USB-C.
At 8K resolution, 2D 360° videos will have enough pixels to almost match the angular resolution of a Meta Quest 3's screen, but they will still fall far short of Apple Vision Pro.
The The four-microphone array features automatic active wind reduction thanks to a built-in 5nm chipset.
The footage is stabilized by a six-axis gyroscope that the company claims “remains level on the horizon even when the camera is fully rotated.”
Insta360 claims the camera is rated for temperatures between -20°C and +40°C (-4°F to 104°F) and is waterproof to a depth of 10 meters, while the Invisible Dive Case accessory worth $ 100 this increases to 164 feet.
The device can be controlled via the integrated 2.5-inch touchscreen, the smartphone app, hand gestures or voice commands. The company then provides an Insta360 Studio PC application for viewing and editing captured footage.

Insta360 X4 arrives just like this YouTube added support for 8K video playback on Quest 3, making it an ideal way to share videos shot with this device.
