Instagram pauses new feature rollout after online community backlash

Among the new features was an increase in the number of video content shown to users and “recommendations” criticized for blocking friends’ messages.

Earlier in the week, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri posted several videos on Twitter explaining the changes and saying he wanted to “continue to support photos”.

But on Thursday a spokesperson for metaInstagram’s parent company said the company “wanted to take the time” to properly implement the changes.

“Based on our findings and feedback from the community, we’re pausing the full-screen test on Instagram to explore other options, and temporarily reducing the number of recommendations you see in your feed so we can improve the quality of your experience,” a Meta spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.

“We recognize that changes to the app can be an adjustment, and while we believe Instagram needs to evolve as the world changes, we want to take the time to make sure we’re doing this right.”

Commenting on Mosseri’s earlier Twitter video, US model Teigen said users “don’t want to make videos” and see lower engagement with photos.

Kardashian and Jenner also shared an online “petition” to “make Instagram Instagram again” on their stories.
