Hajj 2022: Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abdulrahman Maigona dies in Saudi Arabia

Another Nigerian pilgrim identified as Sheikh Abdulrahman Umar Maigona has died in Mecca, Saudi Arabia after the Hajj.

Maigona, an Islamic scholar and member of the Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, died at the Namma Muwada Hotel on Thursday, July 14, after a short illness.

The head of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) medical team, Dr. Usman Shua’ibu Galadima, who confirmed the development, said Sheikh Maigona was brought in around 1:00 PM and treated immediately.

According to him, his situation worsened and in an effort to stop his deteriorating health situation, he gave up.

Galadima said the deceased had once visited the clinic and was being treated for another condition.

According to an eyewitness, Islamic scholar Khalimah exclaimed Shahadah (Laila Islamic lahu – There is no God but Allah) before giving up.

The remains of the late Sheikh Maigona have been taken to Masjid Haram for Janazah and interment.

Until his death, the deceased was a lecturer at the Department of Islamic Studies, Gombe State University and head imam of Izala Mosque.

The 48-year-old cleric was a close associate of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.

Maigona is the third pilgrim killed during the 2022 Hajj operations.

Hajiya Aisha Ahmed from Keffi in Nasarawa state died on June 29 after a short illness and was buried in Mecca while Hajiya Hasiya Aminu from Zaria, Kaduna state died on Arafat day on July 8 shortly after coming to her home from Arafat tent had returned.

Meanwhile, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has expressed his condolences to the family and close associates of the deceased.

A statement signed by the Director General (Press Affairs) Gombe State Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the governor received the news with sadness.

“Governor Inuwa, deeply saddened by the death of the cleric, described the late Imam of Izala Mosque No. 8 as a great scholar, who lived a simple life and devoted much of his life to propagating Islamic ideals. and guiding people in the service of the Almighty. Allah and the Path of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” the statement read.

“He said his death is a huge loss not only to the immediate family of the deceased, but to the entire state and the entire country.

“The governor expressed the condolences of the government and people of Gombe State to the relatives, his associates, including the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, the management and staff of the Gombe State University where the Deceased served as a lecturer at the Islamic studies department and the full Muslim ummah in the state.

“He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds with Aljannat Firdaus.”
