Israel-Rafah LATEST: Palestinians killed in 'night of horror' | World | News

Israeli Shelling and airstrikes killed at least 37 people, most of whom took shelter in tents outside the south Gaza The town of Rafah was hit overnight and Tuesday in the same area where strikes days earlier caused a deadly fire at a camp for displaced Palestinians, according to witnesses, aid workers and hospital officials.

The tent camp inferno has sparked widespread international outrage, including from some Israel's closest allies, due to the army's expanding offensive against Rafah.

And in sign of IsraelAmid increasing isolation on the world stage, Spain, Norway and Ireland formally recognized a Palestinian state on Tuesday.

The Israeli military suggested that Sunday's fire at the tent camp may have been caused by secondary explosions, possibly by weapons from Palestinian militants.

The results of IsraelThe initial investigation into the fire was carried out on Tuesday, with military spokesman Daniel Hagari saying the cause of the fire was still under investigation, but that Israeli ammunition was used – targeting what the army said was a position with two senior Hamas militants – were too small to be the source.
