Ivana Trump’s Death Accidentally Ruled Through Blunt Trauma

Ivana Trumpthe ex-wife of former President Donald J. Trump, died accidentally of blunt force injuries to her torso, according to New York City’s chief medical examiner.

The office, announcing its determination in a press release Friday afternoon, said it would have no further comment on the death of Ms. Trump, 73.

Two knowledgeable law enforcement officers said Thursday that police were investigating whether Mrs. Trump had fallen down the stairs at her Upper East Side home. One of the officials said there were no signs of breaking into the house.

Mrs. Trump and Mr. Trump, who had three children together, married in 1977 and divorced 13 years later. During their marriage, they formed a quintessential 1980s power couple and ruled New York tabloid culture together. She was credited with giving him the nickname “The Donald.”

Mrs. Trump commanded nearly as much media attention as her husband did during their time together, helping to define an era of ostentatious excesses that Mr. Trump later used to position himself as an outsized television personality before becoming a candidate in 2016 for the presidency.

While Mr. Trump was building his real estate business, Mrs. Trump was his behind-the-scenes partner and one of his closest confidants. She chose the pink marble and shiny copper of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue and advised him in his decision to enter the casino business in Atlantic City, NJ.

She was particularly proud of raising the couple’s children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric, writing in her book “Raising Trump” that “the credit for raising such wonderful children belongs to me.”

Trump’s death prompted the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James to say Friday it was delaying an impeachment of the former president, scheduled for next week, as part of a civil investigation into whether he and his company fraudulently devalue his assets. Similar interviews planned with Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. would also be postponed, a spokeswoman for Ms. James said.
