Jeremy Vine was stunned by the ‘angry’ response from anti-vaxxers after he opened up about his latest bout of Covid.

Channel 5’s broadcaster fell ill on Saturday and put on a video message that aired on The Jeremy Vine Show when he was ‘feeling sorry for himself’, but he didn’t get much sympathy from some people on social media.

He returned to the program on Friday after recovering from his brief battle with the coronavirus, explaining: “I had a bit of the Covid, it was a three-day miracle.

“This was the film I made at the peak – I kind of felt sorry for myself here. I was laying in bed and I had a fever with a sore throat, that very, very red line there.

“I felt that on the show to say, ‘Look, this is how it goes!’ People got really angry about it.’

Jeremy – who has been vaccinated – then went to the screen on the wall to read out some of the tweets he received in response to his video. feeling a little sorry for myself’, while urging people to ‘be careful when you’re vulnerable’.

However, many people trolled him with anti-vax messages and misinformation, including one person who said, ‘Hmmm sooo the vaccines don’t work?… well, they do! They make your immune system so weak that you get covid over and over again… and each dose just makes it worse.. FACE IT… (sic)’

Another raged, “Don’t even think about whining about face diapers and shutting down the economy again. You are a government sponsored media puppet and we see you for what you are. Miserable.’

And another Twitter user claimed, “Have you considered the possibility that the reason you’re suffering so much is because you’ve been vaccinated?”

‘This is interesting, isn’t it? There’s a lot of this,” Jeremy said as he read the tweets. “This is a big anti-vax thing!”

Jeremy admitted he struggled to get his head around the comments — which he noted “all say the same thing” — and wondered why there was such an influx of misinformation on social media.

He added: ‘So the idea – I just get this – is that you end up getting Covid because you’ve had the vaccine? Aqui estoy! Saturday morning I got sick and Friday I’m back at work!

‘I do not get it. What kind of misinformation is that, Lucy? What is it about?’

Psychotherapist Lucy Beresford – who was featured on the show – suggested: “Some people like to be contrarian… It may have no basis, no basis for the truth, but they think the most important thing is that they can be with you.” to talk.’

Jeremy pointed out that his first bout of Covid came before he was vaccinated, and his most recent – which he described as a ‘fly-by’ – was a minor case, though he acknowledged the seriousness of the illness.

‘They are angry! This is the second time I’ve had Covid, so they’re like, “Well, you’ve had three vaccines and two bouts of Covid.” I can’t say then, well, the first time I had Covid I wasn’t vaccinated, so that’s a really important point to make,” he explained.

‘And the second time it was only a flight! I’m fine… I appreciate that I probably got a little lucky as I didn’t have it either time I had it. I do want to pay tribute to the fact that we lost 150,000 souls in this country who did not recover from it.’

the Jeremy Vine Show airs weekdays at 9.15am on Channel 5.
