President Joe Biden refused to ask Saudi Arabia on Thursday to produce more oil to reduce the cost of gasoline in the United States and around the world.
At a press conference in Europe, Biden was asked specifically by Saudi Arabian King Salmanbin Abdulaziz Arsaud or Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at a meeting scheduled for July.
“No, I’m not going to ask them,” he said, saying he had already “showed” to the heads of state of all Gulf countries his desire for them to produce more oil.
“I hope to see it conclude that it makes sense for their own benefit,” Biden said.
Biden argued that his trip to Saudi Arabia was not about oil production, but about Middle East peace talks with Israel.
“Sure-it’s in Saudi Arabia, but it’s not about Saudi Arabia,” he said. “It’s in Saudi Arabia.”
Mr Biden said he wasn’t even sure if he would be talking to Saudi leaders.
“I’m not sure. I think I’ll meet the king and the prince, but that’s — it’s not the meeting I’m going to,” he said. “They will be part of a much larger conference.”
Biden is often off the road to criticize Saudi Arabia, despite its impact on the global oil market.
Biden vowed to treat Saudi Arabia as a “paria” in the presidential election, but eventually agreed to a meeting with leaders in July.
Biden blamed high gas prices around the world for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, even though US gas prices had already risen sharply before the war began.
“The bottom line is, after all, Russia is the reason why gas prices are rising,” he said. “Russia, Russia, Russia.”
Biden and his administration continue to pursue fossil fuel policy and are at the mercy of foreign dictators who are rich in oil.
When asked how long the driver would pay for gasoline, Biden replied: Therefore, Russia cannot, in fact, defeat Ukraine and move beyond Ukraine. “
