June Brown: EastEnders Icons Must Return for Dot Cotton’s Funeral | soaps

The emotional farewell is likely to receive a lot of tribute from faces old and new (Picture: Metro.co.uk/BBC)

EastEnders will pay an emotional farewell to one of its most beloved characters when the funeral of Dot Branning, better known as Cotton with dots (June brown), will be broadcast soon.

Show boss Chris Clenshaw has promised a “appropriate tribute to both June and Dot,” and one he feels “the public deserves.”

Could the funeral of Walford’s iconic gossip lead to some famous faces returning to the Plaza? Dot’s associations stretch far and wide, so here’s our dream list of mourners we’d love to see make the trip to E20 to say goodbye:

Colin Russell

Dot’s prejudices often surfaced in her interactions with Colin (Picture: BBC)

The presence of the openly gay Colin Russell (Michael Cashman) in the 1980s reminded us that Dot wasn’t quite likeable. Indeed, her biases often surfaced in her interactions with Colin, most recently when he returned in 2016 with news of his marriage. Fortunately, Dot chose to attend, so it would make sense for Colin to pay his respects now.

Nigel and Clare Bates

Rumpled Nigel (Paul Bradley), with his breezy shirts and ties, is one of Dot’s best-remembered lodgers and became a sort of de facto son to her. And despite not being a fixture on the Square since 1998, Dot was known for occasionally visiting Nigel off-screen. So both he and his daughter Clare (Gemma Bissix) would certainly be welcome returnees.

Arthur ‘Fatboy’ Chubb

A bit long but this is EastEnders (Picture: BBC)

OK, so this one might be a little long, because it was far from confirmed that Fatboy met its creator in a car breaker. But we didn’t actually get to see his body, which gives EastEnders a small amount of leeway when it comes to reviving Fats. When we see a flower garland that says “Mrs B”, we know who the sender will be…

Ian Beale

This would be the ideal time for absent Ian to come home (Picture: BBC)

There are few surviving characters whose association with Dot has lasted as long as Ian’s. And since actor Adam Woodyatt also held in high regard for his co-star June Brown, saying goodbye to Dot would be the ideal opportunity for Ian to resurface. Also, we’ve missed the old schemer and need him back where he belongs.

Charlie Cotton

The most obvious choice, right? (Photo: BBC)

Of all the possible comebacks, Charlie’s (Declan Bennett) would be the most obvious, as Dot has been living in Ireland with her grandson since her abrupt departure from London in 2020. And, of course, he could have been a member of the Cotton clan we never have. got to know: son Matthew, who would now be seven.

Carol Jackson

After marrying Jim Branning, Dot acquired a whole new branch of her family tree, the notable part being her stepdaughter Carol. She hasn’t been seen since she roared out of the neighborhood on her father’s motorcycle in 2015, and actress Lindsay Coulson has been very busy in the meantime. But it would be rewarding for fans to see Carol reintegrate herself into the community if she decides to show her face.

Rose and Andrew Cotton

It would make sense for them to pay their respects (Picture: BBC)

It’s now been ten years since Dot’s half-sister Rose (Polly Perkins) was last seen on screen. Those with long memories will remember that at the time of her departure she had become isolated and unhappy, and so left to reunite with her son Andrew (Ricky Grover). And with both characters still in the land of the living, it only feels fitting that they’re making an appearance now.

Max Branning

Max would add some tension to the proceedings (Picture: BBC)

Max (Jake Wood) is one of the stepchildren who officially became part of Dot’s family after she tied the knot with Jim. And while it’s fair to say that many faces in the square would fall at the sight of Max suddenly showing up, it would certainly add tension, especially when it comes to his relationship with Linda (Kellie Bright) and Mick’s impending exit ( Danny Verver).

Lauren Branning

Dot was a huge comfort to Lauren after Steven died (Picture: BBC)

And speaking of Max, how about a return for his daughter – and Dot’s granddaughter – Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa)? She’s long been a fan favorite, and since Peter recently left the scene, it would feel a lot like a fresh start for the character if she came back – despite the understandably traumatic flashbacks every time she got to the rooftop of the Queen Vic watches. !

Stuart Highway

Dot took Stuart under her wing; he reminded her of her troubled and headstrong son Nick (Picture: BBC)

And so we reach Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ), whose quirkiness clearly reminded Dot of her own offspring Nick. Stuart recently took off in a critically acclaimed storyline where he tried to confront his demons. With many feeling like he left too soon, might this be the ideal time to reintroduce him?
