TL;DR
- The first Pixel 6a update is out.
- It brings the August security patch to the phone for all other Pixels.
Google updates the . Bee Pixel 6a just as it reaches the hands of customers. The OTA update includes the August 2022 security patch, a first for any Pixel. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are currently on the july patch but should get the latest security update soon enough.
The rollout for the Pixel 6a update has already started and Google notes that it will continue in phases over the coming weeks. You may see the update sooner or later depending on your carrier.
Following are the software versions for the first Pixel 6a update:
- Global (Unlocked) Pixel 6a: SD2A.220601.003
- AT&T, T-Mobile Pixel 6a: SD2A.220601.002
- Verizon Pixel 6a: SD2A.220601.004
It’s unclear if the latest Pixel 6a update will previously reported fingerprint unlock bug. Google hasn’t addressed the issue, but some people who have the Pixel 6a claim that the fingerprint sensor unlocks for anyone who uses it. Let’s hope this isn’t a widespread problem like the The Pixel 6’s unreliable fingerprint sensor. For what it’s worth, we didn’t have the problem while review of the Pixel 6a. Our unit does not allow unregistered fingerprints to unlock the phone.
