Kate and William desperate for ‘PR boost’ as Meghan and Harry steal the US spotlight | Royal | News

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to be trying to regain some of the media attention, especially in the United States, as Meghan and Prince Harry steal the spotlight.

Mr Scobie says the world’s interest in the Royal Family is an “essential asset” to Britain’s onboard appeal. Much of that appeal, however, comes from the US, where there is tremendous interest in the company.

However, Meghan and Prince Harry, after their move to California, which caused a lot of commotion within the family, were by far the center of the media attention.

This has not always been the case. In the early days of Kate and Prince William’s marriage, the couple regularly made headlines and magazine covers in America.

However, as their lives “fallen into a steady rhythm,” the excitement surrounding their growing family waned, according to Mr Scobie. Americans seemed to be getting bored of the pair.

He said: “While the US has long been fascinated by British royalty, interest in ‘The Firm’ was greatly revived when one of its own compatriots got married at the House of Windsor in 2018.

“The story of Meghan’s journey as a royal (and everything related to it) still accounts for the bulk of royal news coverage in the US.”

As if to underline the United States’ fascination with Prince Harry and Meghan, no US media has covered Cambridge’s Caribbean tour.

But when he realizes the family needs a “PR boost,” Prince William tries to put himself back in the spotlight of the American media, Scobie said.

Mr Scobie said: “While the source made no mention of it, I wondered if maybe a little competition with his brother would be in the mix as well.

“Harry’s popularity in Britain may be suffering, but his rise in the US has garnered the Archewell Foundation tremendous attention from an impressive list of donors, and his charitable efforts and campaigns have quickly recognized him by Forbes and TIME, who named him and Meghan two of the world’s most influential people.”

The Cambridges have also hired a new head of communications, who spent seven years at media giant NBC. There are also reports that the pair are exploring events in Boston and possibly Washington DC.

As reports of tensions flare between Prince William and his brother, it is clear, as Mr Scobie says, that “the Cambridges have understood that a slice of American pie would be nice too”.
