Kate and William join Camilla and Charles in ‘joint rule’ to avoid ‘trouble’ | Royal | News

Kate and prince Willem could have a “joint lordship” with Camilla and Charles because of their growing popularity with young people. The Queen became Britain’s longest-reigning monarch in 2015 when she surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother Victoria. The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden said when it comes time for Charles to become king, maybe it will be shared with William.

Speaking to Palace Confidential on Mailplus, Mr Eden said: “The issue for the royal family is just not very interested.

“The public is just not very interested in Charles and Camilla and that’s a problem.

“For an institution that relies on public support, I think that’s a real problem and why we’re going to see some sort of joint government with William and Catherine.”

But royal commentator Sarah Vine has urged the monarch to hand over the reins to Prince Charles and enjoy his retirement.

In another conversation with Palace Confidential on Mailpplus, Ms Vine said: “She can just retire and hand it over to Charles.

‘She doesn’t have to die for that, does she?

“She might just say, ‘I’m still queen.’ That’s what I think would be sensible.

“This is what she promised when she was in her early twenties when she became the monarch and she is very religious.

“She asked God to help her and I don’t think she wants to cross that path.

“But I can also imagine that she has a lot of common sense and then if she’s sick or feels like her mind isn’t working as sharp as it still is, she can do something.

“She has given Prince Charles a lot of extra obligations that he has to fulfill for her, which is completely right, and he has accepted them very well, as have other members of the royal family.”
