The Princess of Wales is hosting a special Christmas Carole concert in honor of her mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth. The special event will take place on Thursday 15 December at Westminister Abbey and will be broadcast on ITV on Christmas Eve.

Kate Middleton announced the event on Twitter by sharing a music video by artist Aurelie Baudry Palmer illustrating the celebratory invitation to the concert.

The invitation is a cartoon version of a snowy Westminister Abbey, with snowmen and Christmas trees in the cheerful drawing.

However, the artist has revealed that Kate Middleton has specifically requested that corgis be included in the invitation in honor of Queen Elizabeth.

Ms Palmer said: “It was such an honor to be approached by Kensington Palace to illustrate the announcement for the Princess of Wales’ Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey.

“This assignment was a pretty quick turnaround and I also wanted to leave plenty of time for feedback – like adding corgis!”

Ms Palmer has been blown away by the positive response to her artwork, saying: “I am over the moon that my work has been shared so widely, and also to play a small part in such a thoughtful community song concert.

While working on the invitation, she revealed: “I spent three days working on the illustration, drawing and showing the progress to the Kensington Palace team to make sure I was on the right track.

“It must have taken a few hours… a little longer than the beautiful 22-second clip that was put together afterwards.”

It is the second year in a row that Kate Middleton has given a special concert at Westminster Abbey, the beginning of a new royal tradition.

Last year’s concert recognized people’s hard work during the pandemic, and this year’s event is dedicated to Queen Elizabeth.

It will celebrate the values she has upheld throughout her life, recognizing acts of selflessness among communities across Britain, as well as the importance of supporting others in difficult times.

Buckingham Palace said: “These principles are shared and personified by the inspiring guests who have been invited to the Abbey from across the UK in recognition of their tireless efforts to help and care for those around them.”

The event will include people of all faiths in the UK as well as those who practice no faith or religion.

Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment commissioning at ITV, said: “It’s an honor to be the broadcast partner for the Royal Carols again this year. Viewers are in for a very special festive treat.”

Last year, members of the royal family attended the concert, such as Prince William, Zara and Mike Tindall and Sophie Wessex.

Kate Middleton also delighted royal fans when she gave her first public performance on the piano and duetted with Scottish singer Tom Walker on the song “For These Who Can’t Be Here”.

The singer described the concert as “a once-in-a-lifetime experience” and said the royal was a “sweet, kind and warm-hearted person”.

He said: “She took the time to personally thank everyone for the chance to play together.

“It was a crazy pinch day for me to play in such a beautiful venue next to the Duchess with my band and a string quartet. I won’t soon forget that!”
