Keke Palmer doesn’t seem to like the recent conversation on social media comparing her career to that of Zendaya.
a saturday tweet attracted attention for claiming that a perceived difference in mainstream popularity between Palmer, who currently stars in Jordan Peele’s no, and Zendaya is “one of the clearest examples of how colorism plays out in Hollywood.” The Twitter thread pointed out that Palmer and Zendaya are both former child stars, but that? no is described in some circles as Palmer’s breakthrough role.
On Sunday, Palmer tweetedA good example of colorism is to believe I can be compared to anyone. I am the youngest talk show host ever. The first black woman to star in her own show on Nickelodeon, and the youngest and first black Cinderella on Broadway. I am an incomparable talent. Baby, THIS, is Keke Palmer.”
The 28-year-old star continued,,I’ve been a leading lady since I was 11 years old. I have over 100 credits and am currently playing in an original screenplay that is the number one movie at the box office #NOPE. I’ve had a blessed career so far, I couldn’t ask for more, but God continues to surprise me.”
nowhich opened in the first place at the box office of the weekend at an estimated $44 million, is a sci-fi horror film starring Palmer opposite Daniel Kaluuya.
Palmer broke out as a child performer in Nickelodeon’s title role True Jackson, Vice President, which debuted in 2008 and ran for three seasons.
