Kristi Noem: ‘Wonderful’ states decide abortion rules, #Kristi #Num #Wonderful #States #Decide #Abortion OLASMEDIA TV NEWSThis is what we have for you today:
WASHINGTON, District of Columbia – South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) said she is “great that each state will now make its own decision” on how to regulate abortion following the quashing of the infamous pro-abortion case in the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade.
Speaking to a roundtable of reporters at the Young America’s Foundation’s 44th Annual National Conservative Student Conference, Noem was asked about her state’s trigger law — to be effective if and when roe was destroyed – that made abortion illegal, except to save the mother’s life.
“I think every state will look different, you know, ours, our state had the trigger law in place,” she said. “I know that’s going to be a very different situation than what you’ll see in New York, where that governor said she wanted to be a destination known for a place where people could come for an abortion.”
“It’s appropriate that every state is having this discussion,” she continued, “and also that it may look different in how they support mothers at this point in their lives as well.”
When asked to clarify Noem’s stance on women circumventing South Dakota law to have an out-of-state abortion, Kristi for Governor communications director Ian Fury told Breitbart News: “Governor Noem is morally opposed to abortion, except to save the life of the mother, and South Dakota law reflects that.”
During the roundtable, Noem also said she does not support initiatives to take legal action against women who want abortions, and that she “knows no lawmakers who are seriously pursuing that”. She did say that doctors who perform abortions would see legal consequences.
During her tenure as governor, Noem expanded adoption and foster care in South Dakota.
“We’ve signed up hundreds of new foster homes in the state over the past few years. I’m now paying for the home studies for individuals who would choose to adopt a child,” she said. “This is an opportunity for us, with what happened to Roe being destroyed and sent back to the states is that we have an opportunity to really show that we support women – especially women who are in crisis – in ways which we haven’t before.”
She told the group of reporters that her state has expanded resources for women who are “in an unplanned pregnancy” so that they know that “there are people ready to walk beside them, help them with medical care, financial aid, perhaps raising their child through adoption, or even just mentoring a being with them through the process.”
