Later starts urged for sleepy teens

Sleep researchers across New Zealand are proposing that schools start classes after 9:45 a.m. to address sleep deprivation issues among adolescents.

However, the researchers were well aware that later school start times for older students would impact many people and organizations in different ways.

Research leader and Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health at the University of Otago, Prof Barbara Galland said the research group is now surveying students, parents, teachers, principals and other concerned stakeholders about what they thought could help or hinder schools considering later to start.
