Today in a blog post, Sony has announced a new closed beta test for the PS5. The selected testers can view early versions of some of the new additions. The biggest new feature is an additional selection of video resolutions. With the beta, owners can now select a resolution of 1440p for their games.

This intermediate video setting, between true 1080p HD and true 2160p 4K UHD, can be very useful for gamers with TVs and monitors that support 1440p resolution. If a PS5 game supports 4K, lowering the video resolution to 1440p can help improve the anti-aliasing graphics without having to go to the much lower 1080p setting.

Another new feature in this beta is “game lists”. Testers can create custom lists of their PS5 games in their game library, such as ‘Favorite Action Games’. The beta supports up to 15 separate game lists, with up to 100 games in each list. Disc, digital and streaming games can all be included in the lists and you can have the same game in different lists.

Other new features in this beta test include a new way to compare 3D and stereo audio settings on the same screen and a faster way to see where you left off when playing games. You can also request that members of online gaming parties share their screen with you in the beta, and you can be notified when a party member plays a game that you can join online. It is not yet known when these new features will be rolled out to all PS5 consoles.
