Three British F1 drivers, Sir Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and George Russell shared disappointment with the qualifying results for the home race.

At the Wet Silverstone Circuit, Hamilton and Russell’s Mercedes duo were expected to surprise and qualify in the front row of the grid.

However, despite making promises in the first two sessions, neither driver was able to catch up with the front runners in the final run, with Hamilton in 5th, Russell in 8th and McLaren’s Norris in 6th.

Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz Jr. won the first pole position in his F1 career at Ferrari.

“It looks like it’s improved and a little closed, but I don’t think I had a chance to be in the top three in the dry, but in the rain I had a chance today.” Hamilton told Sky Sports.

“Yesterday the race pace was a little better [in practice] Than our single lap pace. It will be difficult from the 5th, but I will continue to do my best.

“I’m a little angry because there was a lot of spectators here and I was standing in the front row and trying hard to compete for pole position today. The fifth is tough tomorrow, but I Will have this wonderful crowd with me, so let’s move on.

Hamilton has won seven of the last eight British Grand Prix and must return to 2013, the last time there were no home drivers on the podium at Silverstone.

It will be difficult to keep running, but Russell believes there is a chance. [Fernando] Alonso should join the battle at the forefront as soon as possible.

“On a pure pace, we could be on par with the previous guys and I don’t know why we can’t fight for the podium, but we want to start on P8. Easy task, not where you are.

“Everything got a little worse as the session progressed. I was very confident in the first quarter and was in the top three with a majority. [of qualifying] But when it became a problem, I didn’t have it. It was definitely P4 and P5 pace today. “

Norris was a little more optimistic than his compatriots and added that he was “very happy” in 6th place.

“We were in a decent place throughout the weekend, but I think we’re the only ones who don’t bring upgrades, so it’s a bit surprising. It’s really good for us to be in that position.

Clinging will be a real problem for us.I hope George will overtake me soon, but our race is between Fernando and Zhou. [Guanyu].. It will be a good fight.
