Facial recording technology is widely used today, but there is a cost involved. The specialized cameras and lighting installations are bulky and expensive. Not to mention the time and effort spent on processing and fine-tuning the work. Lumirithmic claims to have an answer to these problems.

Lumirithmic, a facial image technology company, has come out of stealth mode after two years of work. Their new technology can deliver high-quality facial scans in minutes. Creating realistic avatars in such a short time has interesting implications for gaming and the metaverse.

Lumirithmic requires significantly less equipment than its modern counterparts

“While some existing technologies offer great results, I have seen firsthand through my previous work how cost and inaccessibility can significantly limit their adoption,” said Abhijeet Ghosh, founder and Chief Scientific Officer, in a press release. “With Lumirithmic, our goal is to create a much more widely available and cost-effective product for capturing 3D facial appearances, enabling a better user experience while reconstructing the most accurate and natural facial expressions, without limiting cost or location. “

While Lumirithmic may be a newer company, the folks behind it have some pretty serious resumes. One of the company’s founders co-developed the Academy Award-winning LightStage Facial Capture System. LightStage was first used in the blockbuster Avatar.

“Once primarily used by the film industry, 3D facial imaging can personalize consumer entertainment and shopping experiences like never before. As companies look for ways to make consumer experiences more compelling, Lumirithmic offers an adaptive solution that ultimately enables more customer touch points and increases brand loyalty without the significant capital investment required by current technologies,” said Gaurav Chawla, co-founder and CEO of Lumirithmic. “Our world-class 3D facial imaging technology will have a significant impact on entertainment, beauty tech, video games, the metaverse and more – the possibilities are endless.”
