M62 CLOSED: Police closed ALL lanes as motorcyclist died in horror crash | UK | News

Police were called to the serious accident near Saddleworth, Oldham, earlier on Saturday. According to National Highways, both lanes on the M62 eastbound ramp and exit at junction J22 are closed as a result.

A van and a motorcycle are believed to have been involved in the collision, traffic information reports.

Normal traffic conditions are expected on Saturday between 12.15pm and 12.30pm.

However, entrances and exits are closed.

Traffic on the A672 is therefore very busy.

West Yorkshire Police were on the scene along with other emergency services.

The collision happened eastbound at Junction 22 of the M62 to Rishworth Moor.

They said: “Police are looking for witnesses following a fatal collision in the Rishworth area earlier today.

“At 07:35 (Saturday), police received a report of a motorcycle collision with a van at the junction of the A672 and the M62 eastbound slip road at Junction 22.

“Emergency services arrived on the scene and found that the motorcyclist, a 36-year-old man, had been seriously injured.

“Unfortunately, he died on the spot.

“The driver of the van, a 31-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He currently remains in custody.

“The collision involved a black Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle and a white Mercedes Sprinter bus.”

In a tweet at 8.57am, North West Motorway Police said: “West Yorkshire is dealing with an incident at junction 22 of the M62 eastbound which has left the exit at j22 closed for the time being.”

The traffic control agency, INRIX, said: “M62 eastbound slip road closed, slip road closed due to serious accident, a van and a motorcycle involved on J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).

“Car traffic can keep up, but there is a lot of traffic on the A672.”
