Macron is furious at nuclear deal with China despite NATO warning ‘What is France playing with? | World | News

Following the most recent NATO summit, officials issued a stern warning against strengthening China’s global power. Despite warnings from its allies, President Emmanuel Macron expanded economic ties between France and China with the signing of a new energy infrastructure agreement earlier this year. The French president has signed an estimated $ 1.7 billion deal with China to work together on “projects in areas such as infrastructure, environmental protection and new energy.”

The failure to heed NATO’s warnings about China has angered GB News host Alex Phillips, who has questioned President Macron’s strategy.

Ms Phillips explained: “Beware of China, this is the message that comes from NATO for the first time in its history.

Are all NATO really on the same page?

“Not alarming, it seems, and perhaps most striking when it comes to France, one of only eight nuclear-capable countries in the world and eleven world leaders in technology.

“Macron signed a major nuclear deal with Beijing in February, which, according to the Chinese Communist Party’s National Development Commission, enables China to take advantage of France’s unique advantage in advanced manufacturing and engineering construction.”

She added: “What is France playing at?

“To play both sides, it seems, is hardly the stuff of NATO unity.”

The GB News host suggested that President Macron’s agreements with China undermine NATO’s cautious front towards Beijing.

NATO has acknowledged that China is expanding its military capabilities, including destroying nuclear weapons as well as promoting the attainment of false Russian propaganda.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Wednesday: “We see a deepening strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing and China’s growing assertiveness and its coercive policy has implications for the security of allies and our partners.”

Mr Stoltenberg continued: “China is significantly building up its military forces, including nuclear weapons.

“Bully his neighbors and threaten Taiwan. Invest heavily in critical infrastructure, including in Allied countries.

“Monitoring and control of its own citizens through advanced technology.

“And the spread of Russian lies and disinformation.”
