Major slip blocks lane at Karori Tunnel in Wellington

A major slip has caused a tree to block a lane at the north entrance to the Karori tunnel in Wellington.

The tree is reportedly blocking the northern lane of the road towards Karori.

Wellington City Council warned motorists to avoid the tunnel.

Contractors were called to the scene to assess the damage.

It is not yet clear when the road will be fully cleared.

The Council has also confirmed that Lennel Rd in Wadestown will remain closed after Thursday a tree fell over the road.

Wet weather prevents contractors from conducting a site assessment.
