A STORM has wreaked havoc in parts of Maryland, including a house reportedly split in two and a significant power outage during a thunderstorm warning.
The city of College Park issued a statement on Twitter, sharing that there is “major damage”.
“There are power outages throughout the area; many large trees have fallen and are blocking roads,” the tweet reads.
“Stay away from the area. Report any suspected gas leaks to 9-1-1. Report downed cables to Pepco: 877-737-2662.”
According to NBC4 Washington, dozens of trees have reportedly fallen as a result of the storm.
College Park, Berwyn Heights and Greenbelt were among the affected areas.
ABC7 reporter Tom Roussey shared a video of a house in College Park that appeared to be split in two by the storm.
Roussey shared on Twitter that two University of Maryland students living in the house said their roommate was in the house when the storm hit and needed to be taken to hospital.
A bright orange sky was seen after the storm rolled through the area, but more thunder and lightning were also on the way.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 9:15 p.m. for parts of Maryland, including Waldorf, La Plata and Golden Beach.
Gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and hail the size of a quarter are possible.
Washington DC was also hit by the wild weather, with reports of fallen trees.
A car fire was also reported in the city.
A live power line was brought down and two vehicles caught fire.
But according to NBC4, firefighters wait for Pepco to turn off the power before extinguishing the flames with water.
