A man has been arrested in Tennessee for the alleged* of a 74-year-old woman who was assaulted at her Nashville home.

Phillip Hayes, 46, was arrested by Metro Nashville police officers and charged with aggravated*, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary.

Authorities say the suspect admitted to being the man in a surveillance photo made public by investigators after the attack.

Police Chief John Drake told a news conference that lab tests had linked the suspect’s DNA to the crime scene.

Mr. Hayes was initially arrested on charges of assaulting an officer, car burglary, resisting arrest and possession of meth, according to Metro police.

A neighbor called the police after reporting that a man had repeatedly rung the doorbell and went through their vehicle.

Investigators then linked him to the *case of a woman who said she was assaulted after completing yard work at her home.

Chief Drake called the attack “a terrible crime” and said the community was “shocked and scared” by what happened.

Police say Mr. Hayes has no history of arrest in Nashville, but does have a history of arrest in Florida and Kentucky.

Officials say he was arrested in Lebanon, Tennessee in May on charges of driving without a license, car theft and drug possession, police said.
