Man hospitalized and part of M6 motorway closed after collision between two trucks

A section of the M6 ​​motorway between Dublin and Galway has been closed this evening following a collision between two lorries.

The vehicles collided shortly before 6pm on the eastbound carriageway, close to Junction 14, between Ballinasloe and Athlone.

Emergency services continue to clear debris and motorists have been advised to use alternative routes.

“Gardaí is currently at the site of a road accident involving two lorries at approximately 5:45 pm, in County Roscommon on the M6 ​​eastbound between the eastern junction of Ballinasloe and Athlone,” a Garda spokesman said.

“A man has been taken to Galway University Hospital for treatment for his injuries. No other injuries to persons have been reported at this time.

“The M6 ​​eastbound will remain closed and is expected to be closed for some time. Eastbound traffic is asked to divert at Junction 14 and take the R446 to Athlone, rejoining the motorway at Junction 13.”
