Man United player ratings against Fulham: Bruno Fernandes and Marcel Sabitzer shine amid FA Cup chaos

Manchester United will face Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final after a goal against nine men Fulham in a remarkable game.

The visitors were much stronger for most of the game and deservedly took the lead through Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored almost a second. But when Willian handled the ball on the line and was duly sent off, Mitrovic and manager Marco Silva were also sent off for wild protests.

Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot and a minute later Marcel Sabitzer added a second in a barely credible five-minute span. Fernandes sealed the points with a beautiful stoppage time.

Dom Smith was on hand to rate Manchester United’s players…

David DeGea—8

Fantastic. Made an excellent save from Aleksandar Mitrovic as United fell 1-0 down. It kept the Red Devils in the cup competition. Now they are in the semifinals.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka — 6

Stuck on the right, but didn’t deliver the attacking threat that Erik Ten Hag would have wanted from him.

Harry Maguire-5

Received a yellow card in the first half and conceded more free kicks in the second half. Could use the international break to get away from Carrington as has been said about him for about two years.

Lisandro Martinez — 7

Lost the dogfight to Aleksandar Mitrovic due to his (lack of) height, but was clean on the ball and didn’t work when he had the chance to get United onto the pitch.

Luke Shaw – 7

An attacking outlet down the left as always, but not as defensively secure as he has been in recent weeks. Assisted Sabitzer for the winning goal with a great cross.

Scott McTominay – 5

A bit absent in midfield. Didn’t take the chance.

Marcel Sabitzer-7

A quiet start but his influence grew. Always had an eye for goal and tested Leno several times before scoring with a daring back heel.

Jadon Sancho — 6

Played pretty well in the first half, but fell away in the second half. Still finding his feet at United more than a year and a half after leaving Dortmund for Manchester.

Bruno Fernandes — 8 | Star man

He rarely goes unnoticed. Good cross, found the ball and was one of United’s best players. Calmly scored from the penalty spot and then headed home in leather to seal the points in stoppage time.

Marcus Rashford- 7

Full of running and a constant outlet, but a rare game with no goal or assist for the England striker.

Wout Weghorst — 6

Had a try in the first half, but was otherwise quiet. Once again it was the Dutchman’s teammates who did the business for United.

Subs

Antony (McTominay, 58′) — 7

Really impressive from the bench and a shame I didn’t score.

Fred (Rashford, 83′) — N/A

Subs Not Used: Jack Butland, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Diogo Dalot, Facundo Pellistri, Anthony Garden, Kobbie Mainoo
