Rashford was forced off late in United’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in which he struggled to assert his attacking talents, and after the match posted a cryptic message on social media to suggest a fitness problem.
Manager Erik ten Hag was asked for an update on Rashford on Friday just over 12 hours into the match and said more tests were needed to confirm the severity of the injury.
He said: “I don’t know, the players are coming in now, we have to do examinations, medical of course we did right after the game, but usually you have to wait for a 100 per cent diagnosis. So let’s do the medical, the work , we have to wait.”
Otherwise, United have no new injury concerns with Donny van de Beek, Christian Eriksen and Anthony Martial still out.
Wout Weghorst continues to underperform in the top flight, although Rashford’s availability is likely to determine the striker’s starting chances. Jadon Sancho did not work as number 10 against Barcelona and was therefore able to return to the wing.
Harry Maguire will be desperate to start with silverware up for grabs. The club captain could get a chance for one from Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez with United back in Premier League action against West Ham three days later.
Manchester United predicted XI: DeGea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred; Anthony, Fernandes, Sancho; Rashford
