Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is looking to bring in a new striker this summer and the club is considering invading Brentford for the second time this summer, according to reports.

The Red Devils have something of a predicament up front, with Cristiano Ronaldo after he requested a transfer, leaving Anthony Martial – who spent the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla – with the only other option.

United are still hoping to convince Ronaldo to stay, but whatever happens to the 37-year-old, Ten Hag is keen to bolster his attacking power.

The Dutch coach had reportedly tried to hijack old club Ajaxlocks Brian Brobbey on permanent deal from RB Leipzig, but the young attacker wants to return to Amsterdam.

United will therefore have to explore other options and according to the mirrorhave added Brentford frontman Ivan Toney to their list of potential targets.

The 26-year-old, who is open to leaving the west London club this summer, has caught United’s attention and they are monitoring his situation.

Toney – who scored 12 Premier League goals and provided five assists last season – lined up alongside another United summer signing, Christian Eriksen, during the Dane’s brief spell at Brentford.

The Bees had hoped to convince Eriksen to extend his stay, but he was persuaded by Ten Hag to move to Old Trafford.

Toney and Eriksen built a good relationship during their short time playing together, with the pair looking particularly menacing on the set pieces.

United could face serious competition for Toney, but Newcastle, West Ham and Leeds are all looking to shoo him away from Brentford too.

Thomas Frank would be very reluctant to lose Toney, especially as he had already lost to Eriksen, but Brentford expects to receive at least one offer for the attacker before the window closes.

Currently United are working on their third signing of the summer in the form of Lisandro Martinez, who has already undergone medical and agreed personal terms but is awaiting a visa.

A deal for Frenkie de Jong is proving quite problematic, even though United have agreed a fee with Barcelona, with the Dutch midfielder reluctant to trade Camp Nou for Old Trafford.
